Instant Pay
is now live!

Introducing: Instant Pay
With Instant Pay, customers can pay businesses directly using your rewards balance, instead of needing to first pay out of pocket and then redeem and wait for the cashout. We are thrilled to introduce this added convenience and empower customers to keep shopping local.
Look for the Instant Pay filter on the Discovery tab for businesses that accept Instant Pay in your community!
FAQ
Instant Pay allows customers to pay participating businesses directly with the rewards they have earned in your city, instead of needing to first pay out of pocket and then wait for the redemption.
By activating Instant Pay, the business will:
• Offer customers added convenience by being able to pay directly with their rewards
• Attract customers who are looking for businesses that accept Instant Pay to use their rewards
• No credit card fees for the amount customer pays with rewards since it’s within the Open Rewards network

With Instant Pay, customers have the convenience of being able to pay with their rewards on the spot. This saves them the trouble of having to first pay the bill and then submit a redeem request and wait for the payout.

Here’s a video tutorial (https://youtube.com/shorts/YbCSDt4vHP4)for customers.
1. Once a business activates Instant Pay, they will have their own Open Rewards QR code that they can print or have available for customers at the store.
2. A customer will scan the business’s Open Rewards QR code and enter the amount to pay in the app.
3. Once paid, the amount will be transferred from the customer’s Open Rewards balance to the business’s Open Rewards balance instantly.
4. The business can cash out that balance from their business portal any time.
Instant Pay will require 2 permissions to be enabled for the app:
1. Camera: to be able to scan the business’s QR code
2. Location: to confirm that the user is at the business’s location
There are 2 options that the business can do in that situation:
1. The customer can still pay for the entire bill in the app by adding a credit card to cover the difference, i.e. let’s say the bill is $20 and they have $5 in rewards, when they make a payment of $20, $5 will be deducted from their rewards balance and $15 will be charged to their credit card.
2. The business can do a split payment on their POS where the customer pays a portion using Open Rewards and the remainder via a separate payment method.
No, Instant Pay is not automatically enabled. Businesses will need to activate this feature via their Open Rewards portal. Here’s a video tutorial (https://youtu.be/iYU8LOrwtMg)on how to activate.
Simply click on the Instant Pay filter in the Discovery tab!
No, Open Rewards is POS-agnostic in order to be as inclusive as possible towards all businesses. It does not matter what POS system the business uses.
They should add Instant Pay as a custom payment option on their POS much like what they might do for a voucher, Groupon, or Chamber Bucks.
When a customer completes the payment, a confirmation is sent to the owner of the business account in Open Rewards.
Future enhancement: add ability to send text notifications to additional staff besides the owner.
If the user's location is at the business, then no receipt is required.
If the user's location is far from the business, then they will need to submit a receipt photo as proof of purchase.
Same as consumers: Venmo (processing time: 1 day), PayPal (processing time: 1 day), Zelle (processing time: up to 5 days), or check (processing time: up to 5 days)
Currently the customer will need to either include the tip in the total amount they are paying in Instant Pay or leave a tip separately.
Future enhancement: add an optional tip screen after the payment screen with suggested percentages that customers can easily click and pay.
This is not currently supported in Instant Pay. If a business needs to issue a refund to a customer, they should get in touch with us on this page (https://www.bludot.io/rewards-contact-support)and we can resolve that case by case.
